Bedford Takes Third at the Titan Duals
Bedford Red opened its season at Warren Woods Tower high school at the Titan Duals. The duals featured 8 schools and was one of the best tournaments in Michigan as six of the schools were ranked in their respective divisions. In fact, the Mules were only one of the two unranked teams in the event.
The Mules opened with the second ranked D1 team in Michigan (18th nationally), the Brighton Bulldogs. Needless to say, this was going to be a huge challenge for the Mules, especially with this being the first dual of the year for our squad. The Mules all fought hard but did not have the fire power to hang with the #2 team and fell 12-53. Winners were Blake Wingate, Connor Frantz, Will Gorman, and Cade Sutterfield.
Next up was Oxford. Oxford is currently the number 6 team in D1 and was going to be a great measuring stick to see where the Mules are this opening day. The Mules jumped out to an early lead and never looked backed - Mules take it 41-23. Randy Boisselle, Connor Franz, Logan Frantz, Colin Jagielski, Cage Dye, Blake Wingate, Erik Simmons, Will Gorman, and Rollie Denker all had wins.
Last in the Pool round was Walled Lake Central. WLC has been a powerhouse in the past but currently is in a rebuilding phase. The Vikings proved to be no match for the Mules as we cruised to a 73-6 victory.
First round of the cross-over pool had the Mules facing D2's fourth ranked team, Eaton Rapids. The dual was close more than half way through, but Eaton Rapids pulled away in the last few matches. Final score was Mules 25, Eaton Rapids 39. Winners were Colin Jagielski, Blake Wingate, Chase Grzegorczyk, Cade Sutterfield, and Mason Rimmer.
Final meet of the day was against D2's sixth ranked team, Goodrich. This was a back and forth meet that came down to the very last match. The Mules needed a pin in the last match to force a decision by criteria, a lot to ask of the 152 lb Logan Frantz, but still possible. Giving it his all, Logan came up with a major decision but was not able to get the pin. The Mules ended up losing 34-36. Winners besides Logan included Jeff Johnson, Colin Jagielski, Blake Wingate, Erik Simmons, Chase Grzegorczyk, Erik Simmons, and Rollie Denker.
Next up for the Mules are dual meets against rival Monroe and Adrian this Wednesday, 12/12, at home. Meet starts at 5:30. Go Mules!
