Bittersweet Banquet

Friday night we bid a bittersweet goodbye to our seniors at the 2012 Bedford Wrestling Banquet. It was a fun night with our Bedford Wrestling family as we gathered one last time to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of the team.  Eighth in the state for team, five All State wrestlers, three All Americans, and six wrestlers over 100 wins – all on THIS TEAM! Coach Vogel announced the following awards:

Practice Wrestler – Codie Bettencourt – For wrestling Bryan Smith every darn day!

Coach Vogel’s Mental Toughness Award – Bryan Smith – For staying calm and then turning it ON when it was time to wrestle.

The Mitchel Rogaliner Freshman of the Year Award – This new award is named after Mitchel Rogaliner the first ever freshman state champ. However he can never WIN it because it always goes to a freshman. This year Tyler Rogaliner is the first recipient of the award.

Most Improved Wrestler – Brandon Sunday and Al Regnier – Not going to States last year – PLACING this year.

Most Valuable Wrestler – Mitchel Rogaliner – Two Time State Champ! Yeah baby.

The Bill & Carol Regnier Award – Al Regnier and Hannah Perrot – Given to the wrestler and grapplerette who most exemplify love of the team over self.

The Bob Andrews Athletic Booster Award – Mitchel Rogaliner for excellence on and off the mat.

We will miss you so much seniors! But what a great example you set and lead this team back where it belongs – STATES!

Bedford Loses on the Eighth Criteria

More pictures to come and more memories to share the season but in the end the Mules lost on the Eighth Criteria. After the last match the score versus Hartland was 27 to 27 and the waiting seemed to last forever.

It went down to the eighth criteria and the Mules came up one match point short. Where the Mules NEVER came up short was in heart, sportsmanship, loyalty, and grit. We’re proud of each and every Kicking Mule who competed in this 2012 Season. Here are our boys in the Grand March. Nothing like.

More coverage to come – but for now… they’ve paid their dues..

The Super Six

Six Bedford Wrestlers ran the gauntlet that is Individual Regionals and came through victorious. To muscle through the last challenge on the way to The Palace a wrestler must win two matches and achieve a top four finish.

Mitchel Rogaliner (112) again led the way with a championship finish. Rogaliner came in first and will make his third appearance at The Palace for this groundbreaking Junior and team Captain.

Mitchell Pawlak (119) showed up ready to rumble! Pawlak finished second,  he waded through brutal competition and wore the Bedford Red with pride. This junior wrestled with explosive power Saturday

Al Regnier (140) pushed through a tough field as well. A first round loss didn’t slow him down –  instead it fueled him to to three tough as nails wins. This Senior and Team Captain finished third with his now trademark fist pump!

Brandon Sunday (189) was also sporting Bedford Red and it blinded his competitors. This junior is a rock solid powerhouse who has only begun to fight!

Bryan Smith (215) was fearsome and unstoppable at Regionals.  This Senior pummeled the competition with the Bedford Red On His Head! Not much can be done when the Smith Train leaves the station!

Logan Rimmer (285) did what Logan Rimmer is known for, win! This Senior Captain climbed to the the top of a big mountain and is headed back to The Palace.

We’re so proud of these Super Six as they represent Bedford in the Individual State Tournament at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

And to Tyler Rogaliner, Jacob Lohr, David Lijewski, and Jon Prajzner, we are equally proud of you and your incredible grit today and all season. Though it is the Individual Regional you are the epitome of TEAM!
