A Word About Fundraising

Wrestlers pitch in to install wall mats.

YOUR volunteering raised the money for these mats!

WOW! That’s the word. While the wrestlers goal during the off season is to get more experience at spring, summer and fall tournaments the goal of our parent groups and supporters was to raise funds to renovate the new wrestling room. We aimed to find events where we didn’t have to lay down our own cash – just effort.

Our goal was pretty challenging – Coach gave us a mission to raise $25,000 for paint, purchase wall mats, re-condition the existing floor mats to fit in the new space, and finally purchase new tournament mats. $25,000 is a lot of money but the payoff of a new room and mats will help very single wrestler from Seniors on down to the GLWC kids. So we got to work.

Parents, athletes, fans, and families did two test drives, supported a golf outing, worked poker rooms, and sold seat backs at MIS. There was a lot of effort in a short amount of time. We know it’s seems like everyday we’re asking for help.

But we’re excited to report that we’re ALMOST there. How almost? If we do three poker nights with GLWC at the end August and three in November we’ll have hit our HUGE GOAL. We’ll have raised $25,000 for the renovation and helped to fund the team needs throughout the season.

So here’s the promise. Help us finish the GLWC Poker Nights by working a shift or two, and you won’t have to take time during wrestling season to do anything but watch wrestling. That’s right. Nothing to do during season but CHEER FOR YOUR WRESTLER, knowing that you did all you could to financially support the team in the off season. The next six poker dates help pay for floor mats, lodging for tournaments, and other needs throughout the year.

It’s incredible what this small group of wrestling families and fans has accomplished since we began to raise money for renovations. Just this spring we started at zero! But between GLWC and Spirit Club we’ve nearly reached $25,000 in funds for room renovations in less than five months. This wrestling family did all this without opening our own checkbooks! Hard work wins people – just like with the team.

Please get our your calendar and see what you can do to put the teams over the top. The following GLWC Poker Nights need to be staffed. Email bedfordwrestling@gmail.com to sign up. If you have ANY doubt that your effort matters take a look at those pictures. The old weight room is looking more and more like a wrestling room everyday! Thanks to you. [Read more...]

Ford Drive One 4UR School

The wrestling team has the opportunity to earn $6,000 from Ford  Motor Company on August 6th. Ford will donate $20 per test drive to Bedford Wrestling up to 300 households. Please begin to ask your friends, family, and neighbors to spare less than 30 minutes to come over to the front parking lot of Bedford High School. They need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. They don’t have to buy a thing. Just sign up, drive, and take a quick survey about Ford vehicles.

Coming to this event is not enough. You need to bring folks with you. Ford is willing to give up to $6,000 if we can come up with 300 houses to participate. This money will go straight to the wrestling room and equipment. That means high school wrestlers all the way down to little GLWC wrestlers will benefit immediately.

We did a wonderful job with our Grogan’s Test Drive but that was 250 drivers. This is 300 HOUSEHOLDS. It’s tougher. But the same rules apply. No need to buy a thing or sell a thing and our team gets a HUGE donation.

So start lining people up! Here’s a form to take to work.FORD DRIVE ONE 4UR SCHOOL EVENT Sign Up Are you on Facebook? Here’s a way to sign people up on Facebook. Click to show that you’re attending and invite your Facebook Friends to attend to! Share it on your wall and invite everyone to be a part of THE 300!

Remind your buddies about all the candy, cookie dough, wrapping paper, and other items you’ve purchased to support school fundraisers. You’re not asking anyone to buy a thing. You are asking them to help the team get FREE money. It’s a lot easier to ask for help when you don’t have to ask folks to spend.

Plus they’ll be free cold drinks and they’ll be entered in a DRAWING FOR A $100 GIFT CARD TO BEST BUY just for test driving!

Ford is giving this money to schools. Let’s make sure the MULES get the most they can by just showing up and taking a spin.

Dodge and Grogan Present $5,000 to Bedford Wrestling

Bedford Wrestling Spirit Club would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Dodge and Grogan’s Towne Chrysler Jeep Dodge. They presented us with a check for $5,000 on Monday morning. This was a donation wrestling families earned by bringing 250 test drivers to a Dodge Test Drive Fundraiser last May.In May wrestling team supporters got behind the wheel of several brand new Dodge vehicles provided by Grogan’s Towne. Dodge donated $20 a test drive to the team. $5,000 is the maximum donation for the Test Drive Fundraiser with Dodge and thanks to the staff at Grogran we reached our goal. Grogan sales staff even extended the hours of the May event so we had time to get those 250 drivers to the parking lot at B.H.S.

The owner of Grogan’s Towne, Denny Amrhein, received a handshake and thank you from the all the wrestlers, coaches, and parents in attendance for the ceremoney at the dealership on Telegraph in Toledo. Coach Brighton and Athletic Director, Mark German were there for the presentation and explained that the money is a big step  forward in the current campaign to fund renovations in the new wrestling room. Plus take a look at the slide show, you’ll see 13ABC, Fox Toledo, WTOL, and Bedford Now all covered the event. Don’t forget to keep an eye out on the news tonight for our boys and for an interview with Coach Brighton.

Denny Amrhein, Grogan's Towne Owner, talks to the media.

Coach explains how the donation will help renovate the new wrestling room.

The money donated by Dodge will go to renovating the team’s first ever wrestling room!  Thank you again Dodge, Grogan’s Towne for this terrific fundraising opportunity. And thank you parents and wrestlers (that also includes our little guys from GLWC!) for taking time out this morning to make it a memorable moment and to show Grogan how much we appreciate it.

Important Dates

As you know we are currently in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to renovate our new wrestling room. We have set up several fundraisers in August, September and November to reach our goal. None of our fundraisers require our families to sell or purchase a thing. They are all free to us. All we need to do is participate by either test driving a Ford, working a poker night for the GLWC, and collecting seatbacks at MIS.

This combination of fundraisers will ensure that the team has a well equipped wrestling room AND new mats for tournaments. The mats will be used from Seniors all the way down to the littlest GLWC wrestler.

EVERYONE has to do the test drive below if they can, but the rest, just look at the dates and start thinking where you might be able to spare a few hours. Click on GLWC August 17- 20 2011 POKER to see an example of the time required to volunteer for the poker nights.

Thank you. You are helping us all leave a legacy for today’s wrestlers and into the future for tomorrow’s young Mules!

DATES TO REMEMBER

July 11th – Spirit Club meeting at 6 p.m. at the new wresting room. We’ve got a lot going on. Come meet the new Spirit Club Officers, find out what’s going on, and offer your talents up for the team! The meeting takes one hour.

July 18th- All wrestlers, coaches and parents who are available please meet at Grogan’s on Telegraph at 10:20 a.m. Grogan is presenting us a check for $5,000 for the test drive fundraiser we did in May. There will be news crews there so wear your Bedford Wresting T-Shirt! This is not a fundraiser just a great chance to thank Dodge and Grogan.

August 6th – We need 300 households! That’s right we’re doing it again, another test drive. This time Bronde’s is helping us out and we need one person PER household up to 300 households to get $6,000. In other words we get 20 bucks a house! But we have to make sure EACH of us gets 10 or 15 of our neighbors and relatives to take five minutes out of their day and test drive a Ford at the BHS parking lot. It runs from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Same as before we don’t have to purchase a thing – just participate and we get a GREAT donation to renovate the wrestling room.

August 13th- Weight Room Dedication Day. Please join Mule Muscle for the dedication of the weight room on the campus of BHS. It’s the culmination of so much work by wrestling families. Without the weight room there’d be no wrestling room and without the wrestlers there’d be no weight room! Please be there to see it named AND to be publicly thanked for your Pepsi Refresh Efforts. We’re pretty sure there’s a free Pepsi involved. Time to be announced.

August 17, 17, 19, and 20th – Poker Nights. Four people a night in two shifts. So basically you work 5 hours, just COUNTING in the air conditioning and GLWC could earn hundreds of dollars a night to help pay for new mats.

August 21st – Second MIS Race. Free day at the race. Money for the season. No brainer!

August 31, Sept 1, Sept 2 – Poker Nights. Four people a night in two shifts. So basically you work 5 hours, just COUNTING in the air conditioning and GLWC earns money to help pay for new mats.

November 27, 28, 29 – Poker Nights. Four people a night in two shifts. So basically you work 5 hours, just COUNTING while seated comfortably and GLWC earns money for the final tweaks to the room before the season begins!

We expect EVERYONE to bring people to the test drive since that’s 300 houses needed. This only takes ten minutes.

We understand there are a lot of dates. Just get out your calendar and see where you might be able to pitch in.  In these tough economic times we’re working hard to fund the teams needs without asking anyone to reach further into their pockets. We can get this done by working hard instead of paying big!
